Hale Ilio Himeni (House of Singing Dog) sits on the green slopes of Mauna Kea at 1400ft elevation. Views of Mauna Kea summit, Hilo airport, the coastline all the way to the eastern volcanic rift, and blue ocean horizon.
Enjoy a wonderful sunrise bringing warm breezes, forest rain and promises of yet another day of island adventure. Grab your gear and head down the hill to Honoli'i Beach.
Hale Ilio Himeni offers two large master suites and a third bedroom, with flexible space and full kitchen to accomodate up to 6 guests.

The Ocean Suite (314sqft) is a spacious bedroom and ensuite bath. Enjoy the breeze as you look out over the ocean horizon from your king size bed. In room sink vanity and water closet.
The Garden Suite (315sqft) is on the mauka (mountain) side of the house overlooking the garden. This suite has a separate entrance from the covered parking area. A king bed and a sitting area with full size futon for extra sleeping space. There is also a private entrance to the Spa Bath.
The Reading Room (110sqft) also has an outside entrance and can be used for quiet time away from the family room, or extra sleeping space with the addition of a deluxe queen airbed.
The central Spa Bath, with cedar ceiling, and custom steam shower is a luxurious place to linger. Stand under a rain shower with body sprays to invigorate your skin, or have a seat and melt away the world in steam.
Step outside the cottage and you’ll find manicured lawns, flowering plants, lemongrass, and fruit trees. The property also offers covered parking for our frequent rainy days.
Hale Ilio Himeni, while only 5 miles from downtown Hilo, feels like another place in time. The temperatures at this elevation are 60-85°F, we have frequent morning and afternoon rain showers, and it is not uncommon to have actual clouds roll by at ground level. It is rarely hot enough for A/C, and during the winter months you may want an extra blanket at night! Perfect weather to enjoy cool nights for snuggling and warm days for island fun.
There are plenty of adventures to be had within a short distance. Your island homebase is centrally located only a few miles to local Hilo hot spots and attractions. Each direction offers a different climate and various things to see and explore. West is straight down the hill to the beaches of Hilo. You can drive South through Pahoa to the Kalapana lava flow or Volcano National Park at Kilauea. A short trip North will bring you to the waterfalls and eco fun on the Hamakua Coast. Or grab your coats and go East climbing to 14,000 feet elevation at the chilly Mauna Kea summit!
